    Default Etosha Sunset

    Attached Images Attached Images

Sticking to some of my Etosha images.
This was taken at dusk one evening...

I tried to strike a balance between silhouette mood and having a hint of detail available where the last light was hitting the animals (just past sunset).
I also pushed the saturation just a wee bit (call it artistic license), but not more than 10-15 points up.
    What do you think?

    Wonderful! Incredible! Amazing!

What would you think about going a step further, with a subtle gradient darkening in the top 1/3 or so?

Morkel - this is magical. The low pov, the colors, the silhouettes with just enough detail and the fact that none of the animals merge all combine to create a fantastic image. Well done both in the field and in pp.

Brilliant Image Morkel. The mood is just fascinating here and what a way to depict the wildlife, the environs & the sky!

Hi Morkel, certainly pushing it that fraction more gives a nice overall colour to the image, just not sure if I want a hint more 'visible' parts within the darker areas, or to just go black? Love the giraffes, very iconic.

Wonderful sighting and so well captured Morkel! I just love the giraffe in the background! How about a B/W version as well?

Very dramatic! The giraffes appear lilliputian in contrast to the massive elephant! Artistic license very well applied.

    Morkel.... NIIIICE

It's always a tough call on how much detail to include in the shadows of a silhouette but I think you made the right call in this case given the light that is falling on the Giraffes in the BG. Saturation has given it some extra umph.

No one else has mentioned it, but I would like to see a bit (or more) of the other tusk.

The thumbnail doesnt do this justice mate. Excellent comp, well positioned/planned to place the ellie between the giraffes, and the graduated skyline puts this over the top.

absolutely gorgeous! as you have mentioned, the balance between silhouette & detail, along with the tones is what makes the image special for me.

Very nice scene! I personally would like just to see all the animals dark and without the hint of some color as it'd be more imposing on the beautiful sky colors.
Quite a POV and you're lucky to stick around "after sunset" Got to love wildlife research!!

    Thanks everyone.

Shreyas...we slept on a structure about 30 meters from the waterhole/bunker. Needless to say the nighttime noises and experience was beyond awesome.
