This bird was sitting on a natural perch which was a dead branch of a live tree. Thanks for looking. Canon 1D MIV, Canon 500 f4.0 L IS, ISO 400,1/640 s, f8 * I wonder why I can no longer start a new paragraph in in new line

Tongue and all in this one. Nice head turn Karl and clear eye, and well done on a natural perch and surrounds, certainly isolated well with clean backdrop. It looks a tiny bit soft i think, but maybe just a slight tweak in that regards on the head would help. A slight shame about the chunky branch intersecting with the perch...but what can ya do sometimes . One thing I do see though is a white strip or halo on the top edge of the chunky branch.

Just realized these birds remind me quite a bib of a bird we get here called a Jackywinter, that will often perch like this

Bird is nice and sharp Karl.
i don't know how big the crop is, but if you have more room top and bottom a vertical would look nice
    without the near oof branch.

Nice image Karl - sweet pose and excellent details - I'd give the bird a touch more room if you have it,
    Cheers, Greg

    Terrific shot!!
Wonderful smooth background, excellent feather detail, love the open beak, and great pose.
I agree with Dan on the crop suggestion. It would definitely eliminate the bigger part of the perch.
    Well done.

Very nice feather detail and exposure on this Karl. Beautiful BG and I like the perch too. The open moth with the tongue showing is great. Well done

Thanks Dan, thank you all. Here is a vertical crop. (The crop was not big. I was about 15-17 ft from the bird)

Super depth of field throughout, which I think is really important with this kind of pose, where the tail is closer to you. Love that view of the tongue and all the feather detail. Great phoebe portrait.
