This image of an endangered Roseate Tern feeding his mate was created on Great Gull Island on June 3, 2013 with the hand held Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens, the Canon 2x EF Extender III (Teleconverter), and the Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera. ISO 800. Evaluative metering off the grey sky +2 stops: 1/500 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode.

This is really nice, one of your best IMO.
The far oof wing is perfectly out of focus. The interaction is superb.
Maybe a bit off the top for me and if possible, enough lightening on the heads to get eyes.
    Terrific perch and dreamy BG.

Excellent interaction, great exposure for whites and black. I like the wing blur too, my only suggestion is adding a subtle catchlight for the left bird,

    Hi Arty

I too like this for the interaction. I agree with Dan that eyes are required and took the liberty of convincing myself by having play with the images... See attached. I am expecting a lighting bolt any minute now...!

Beautiful!! Only nit is I'd blend out the lighter area to the right of the rock, and do like the idea of taking some off the top.

Nicely times, nice interection and like the light tonings throughout, but to be picky I feel the black heads need a bit more detail....I think Don has addressed this aspect quite well

Lovely interaction and color scheme. I agree on a bit off of the top for more of a pano crop. Would try to lighten the eye area a bit on the left bird as I don't think a catch light would look natural.

Beautiful moment captured. I love how you can see the faint rosy area on the breast of the incoming. The wing blur, the curl of the prey, and the soft light and colors are all super. I think Roseates are the most stunning of all the terns.

Absolutely superb! Beautiful interaction captured. The wing blur adds such subtlety to this image.Agree that lightening of eyes improves the image. Stunning postures and bg.

Thanks all. The rosy tinge on the breast is usually only seen in overcast conditions.

Beautiful image, including that hint of rosiness. Seeing the eyes does help, IMO.

The caps are a bit dark to my eye. Adding a catch light is not an offence but agree with Marina about it looking unnatural for this one.

Thanks all for your kind comments. I would not want to take anything off the top. And I am fine with the light area to the right of the rock as in my mind it sort of balances the incoming male on the left.

Thanks Don for the repost. The caps in your version are surely over-done. I do not remember if I ran and NIK Detail Extractor on the caps but if I did, my theory is that underdone is much better than over-done :). Same with lightening the irises and darkening the pupils: a tiny bit is fine but.... In your version, the eyes do look better.
