The stone in this image marks the border between South Africa and Botswana. Myself and my partner Andre took the same image during our last trip to the Kalahari Transfrontier Park during a sandstorm. This is my version...

Hi Gabriela, I understand about the marker stone, however because it overlaps with the subject it doesn't really work for me. If you had a chance to move right so the stone was clear of the subject then this would have been better. Plus you can then have the option, with or without the stone with some careful cloning. Also tonally the whites have blended into the very soft browns, have you added anything to the image in terms of a toned wash? Based on the content I feel you could also have dropped the ISO as 2500 seems a little high

I see what you mean about the stone, Steve-I have removed it and cloned a bit of tail and leg...And yes, I applied a sepia filter. I will re-process the image from RAW, I am just posting this version without the stone for now

    Thank you Steve

Hi Gabriela - I much prefer it without the stone. I like the position of the gemsbok in the frame. Do you have it without the sepia toning for comparison? Also have you blurred the bg?

Hi Gabriela, without the stone the image has a more 'appealing' look, however you also have to remember the ethics and the reasons why you have made such a choice as it is partly the reason why you took the image. Adding the Sepia tone IMHO doesn't really add anything to the image and perhaps kills the more 'brighter' highlights that in away adds interest.

Both are personal thoughts and it would be interesting to see what others say & feel about the RP.

While I prefer the image aesthetically without the stone, I really like the story behind it WITH the stone. Your third choice would be to put the stone in the image where it doesn't intersect with the animal but help to balance out the image and simultaneously tells a story.

For me this image is more about "art" than a recording of an event. I like the very simple elements & minimal colors and would even consider blending and blurring the foreground some for more of a feeling of isolation in a sandstorm. (I post often in OOTB ). One can create many versions of the same image, some creating more of a feeling and some more of the real details of the event.

Intense sandstorm! I too like it better without the border marker, and I would also like to see it in a more natural colour, Gabriela? The dust should also be closer to white IMHO?

Thank you all for your kind comments and critique, and dear Morkel, I shall repost this image in its natural "state" ...err...colors - oops, I must do it all over again, I think I flattened the layers, ouch

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
