Thanks to the kindness of project director Helen Hays I returned to Great Gull Island for the first time in 23 years. On my last visit in May 1990, my older daughter Jennifer who was in her third of five spent there as a volunteer researcher, Jen met her husband to be, Erik Egensteiner, then a young biologist from Connecticut.
This endangered Roseate Tern was photographed with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto zoom lens with the Canon 1.4x EF Extender III (teleconverter)--hand held at 245mm--with the Canon EOS-1D X digital SLR . ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1/3 stop: 1/2000 sec. at f/7.1 in Manual mode. Central sensor/AI Servo Surround/Rear Focus AF.
