Strong light, but doesn't look blown out...just a little halo showing on the back of the neck. All looks quite sharp and nice even dof from tip of beak to tail. Rather like all the little weeds as part of the composition and sits within the frame nicely. I guess a lower shooting angle would be even nicer, but looking at the mud I can understand why it isn't lol

Another one of those "would be better with a lower angle" type images. Lying in the mud is fun...really! Anyhow, the techs are perfect, composition strong, and details good. I love the muddy bill. I'd be tempted to remove the two OOF grass blades in the upper corners.

Thanks, folks. You are not supposed to go down off the roads at EB Forsythe NWR. Although I cheated and went down the banks as far as I could and got down low to get my images, I followed the intent of the law and didn't go down into the mud flats.

This is a very good image and yes it would be even better with a lower angle. Totally understand about your not being able to get any lower. We have it easier here down in Florida with being able to get close to birds. Good job on the exposure and I hint of vegetation. It adds a lot.

I like that you respect the rules and I wish more would, I realize it is not always possible to go lower even if we want to. Thanks for the clarification Ian!
