I wish the branch wasn't in front of the tail...I wish I had more shots that didn't need an "i wish..."

...and I wish...I wish I had an image like this, Gail! Superb, and I do not mind one bit that little branch in front of the tail, to me it is just part of the environment. Love the background and the colors are outstanding. Magnificent capture, with the fruit still attached to the branch by a mere thread...great timing!

    Kind regards,

Oh my! I too wish I had a shot like this. It's just beautiful. The pretty colors, nice head angle, and to top it off, the berry! Well done!

Super shot, Gail. I love the comp, the muted colors, and of course, the berry. Great pose. Nice PP work on the BG. I'll have to try EFIX neg. contrast; it worked well here. And just the right amount of DE on the bird. Nicely done. I suppose if I had to nitpick, another stop down might have given more DOF for the head and tail.

Always impressed by images of these lovely birds, this one no exception. Great interaction with the fruit/crab apple and do like the effect on the backdrop, all works together well for a soft on mood effect but not soft on detail

Another fine image of this species. We dont get these here, wish we did as they are very beautiful. Exposure, pose and details look great and I like the BG too. No nits here just a pat on the back. Oh, I dont mind the branch on the tail at all.

You have really good feather detail on the waxwing, not easy as they don't have much texture to them.
    Branch is fine.
Maybe a bit more above or below for a more vertical look.

Very Beautiful, I too like the interaction with the yummy berry from the eye. Great processing work for what you have here.

Nice framing, i love the details on the bird and the guy sticks in the beak into the berry which makes it very interesting to me

The background you achieved is so pretty. Great soft light quality. I understand the sentiment with which
you made the comment about the tail/twig obstruction, but photographing this species in ornamental crab apple
trees and achieving clean compositions like this is really difficult (in my experience), and the result here is
so good,...like others, to me, it's not bothersome in the least. Could you have lucked out anymore with just
the single apple showing and the perfect head angle. It's one of the best bohemian waxwing/crab apple images
    I've seen in some time.

I can see why you do not like that twig overlapping the tail, and I myself often find them unfortunate...but in this case it does not bother me at all. Neat feeding pose, I just love how the waxwing pulled the crab apple up vertically like that! Not knowing what the BG looked like before it looks pretty darn good with the effect you gave it.

Hi Gail, geat feeding behavioural pose, and love how the beak is 'tucking' into the apple. Well exposed on the waxwing, and I do like the OOF strands of grasses spread across the BG. Well captured.
