Some day I'll manage to get a decent image of one of these speed-demons in-flight. This was at EB Forsythe NWR, Oceanville, NJ
Canon 7D
Canon 500/4
1/640 sec f/6.3 ISO 500
CS6 for a touch of sharpening. Nearly full-frame.

Ian,
Nice picture of a challenging subject to capture. What was the time, is this morning light? The only nit; the perch is bright and coming from the foreground pulls the eye a bit,..on balance nice job.
Was this HH, could be sharper and more detail could make this sweet shoot even stronger. Thanks for posting and PLEASE keep em coming.
One more thing, I like the shooting angle, different and the top side is not often seen, very original.
Full frame nice,..how close were you?

Thanks, Jeff. This is late afternoon light. The little guy was on a stair railing below me at the lookout deck at EB Forsythe NWR (Oceanville, NJ). The lens rested on the fence railing (so, not quite HH). I'll tone down the perch a bit. I was at MFD of my 500.
HI Ian...The perch has already been mentioned! If it were mine I would clone out at least some of the high contrast spots....but nicely sharp and a great angle!
Nice work on this one Ian, not much to add to above comments. I have driven myself mad trying to shoot swallows in flight! At least that's one explanation...![]()

Ian, very nice image. Beautiful bird. I see a bit of noise in the BG. The bird eye looks sharp enough for me, but some of the details on the feathers do not show well. I suspect may be a little under-expose perhaps or DOF at 6.3 since you were at MFD. did you convert the image using DPP? If so, what were the readings of your highlights ? Loi
