    Default Making Selection.

I have been using selection tools all the time as I usually do certain things on the main subject and others on the background (surrounding) I basically use two tools; Magic Wand Tool and Quick Selection Tool. They do a good job but sometimes I wish I could be more precise by using Refine Edge Tool with the Smart Radius. My question is: if I have a very fine contour what should be the setting of the following: Smart Radius, Feather, Contour, Shift Edge. I tried to use the Smart Radius feature by assigning different values of those mentioned above, but none seem to have worked for me. I use Refine Edge all the time but without the Smart Radius. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Karl,

A bit surprised no one else has chimed in. I use the quick selection tool coupled with refine edge all the time. The nice thing about refine edge is that it will automatically "feather" the selection for you in some locations, so it's not "black or white" when you make a mask. Do you have a specific photo that you can post and we can maybe try some different settings and let you know what works best?

If you want a really detailed look into making selections, I would highly recommend Dave Cross' class in KelbyTraining. I think it's $10 for a 3 day viewing period. Just make sure if you go that route that you take good notes!
