As I was leaving EB Forsythe NWR (Oceanville, NJ) this morning for my last visit of this trip, I saw this little guy crossing the road. I lay down on my belly on the road and photographed him before gently picking him up and putting him to the side so traffic didn't smoosh him (and before any traffic came along and smooshed me).

Very nice, Ian. Love the low angle shot and tack sharp image. Nice of you to put the tule off the road, Hopefully, on the side he wanted to go. Loi

Cute little guy and nice low angle, Ian. Is there any reason you went with a diagonal orientation? Im of course assuming the road is level at this point...
The head appears to have suffered from camera shake or motion blur (not really with your SS) - could you perhaps post a 100% crop of the head?

Thanks, folks. Morkel, the diagonal was the natural angle of the shoulder of the road where Mr. Turtle sat. I was tempted to pick him up and put him in a better place to shoot, but decided against it (knowing that, if I picked him up, he would withdraw into his shell and then I'd have to wait for him to extend again - at the risk of oncoming traffic). I'm at work now with a crummy monitor and don't see the blur, but will look again when I get home.

I really like the smooth, simple bkgd allowing the striking colors and patterns of the turtle to be on display. Great perspective from ground level.

    Thanks for the clarification.
It's more the eye - it doesn't seem as sharp as I expect it to be...
