    Clapper Rails are secretive birds ... and here is one stepping briefly out of the marsh grass and checking to see if the coast is clear.

    Hi Ian, these are difficult birds to photograph. Glad you got a chance to capture one. It looks like you were trying to bring out detail by using sharpening, as there is a distinct halo around most of the bird. Unfortunately the camera picked focus at the back of the bird and not the head. I like the way the bird is stepping into the light, makes for and interesting scene. Love that big goofy foot...

    Grrrrrrr... that'll teach me to post from my laptop - don't see the halo here, so will need to look when I get back home. I have a couple dozen images of these guys, so will post others. Thanks, Kerry.

    Ian,

    Nice use of light on the head area given the mixed light. I bit more detail would make the image stronger - are you using a tripped?

    The image is framed well - nice subject placement.
