Grabbed this one during an overcast, late afternoon in mid-November while he was following a group of does. Thought it was a good look at a healthy buck primed for the rut. 5DMKII, 1-400L, f5.6, 1/100s, ISO 2000, monopod mount, cropped some all around.

The Buck standing in the correct position on this two toned Bg makes this a good image. If it was mine I would clone out or lighten the dark tree trunk and the black blotches at the back.

Hi Steve - it has a bit of a 3d look to it which works well. Nice pose with the head turn towards you and complementary soft colors. I might run a round of NR on the bg.

Lovely image Steve, great soft pastel colours and the buck stands out nicely, agree on perhaps removing the dark tree trunk in the bg. Also the buck i think needs a little more sharpening perhaps another round of Low USM, I keep turning my head cause the buck front legs are lower than the back, not sure if this is how it is, if not perhaps a little CCW rotation.

    Very nice image Steve.
I agree with the tree trunk in the back!
For me it looks great as it is, just a tad more sharpening might would do good

    Have a great day

Thank you for the comments and suggestions. Brendon, the deer was on a slight hill that sloped slightly towards me and to the right.

I like the soft light and muted tones, Steve. He looks like a fat bugger .
I too see a need for some CCW rotation?
Despite the similar colour of the BG, the buck stands out well.
