This owl was keeping an eye on two crows that had just been harassing him minutes earlier as they flew off though the trees. 7D, 700mm, f6.3, 1/100s, ISO 1250, monopod mounted, cropped all around.

Steve, I liked the owl and the nice clean green BG. nice catchlights in the eyes. The details in the perch look a bit odd. Did you do some noise reduction there? Did you get one with the head turned a bit downwards? I am guessing that will look even better.

Kaustubh,Thanks for the look and comment. I did apply NR to the entire image masking away different parts for different strength. I've had similar comments about the texture of the bark on these trees. I've included a crop of the branch with no NR done to see what you think about the effect of the NR. No shots looking down as he was about 8 ft off the ground and focused on flying birds.

100% crop looks fine. I'd mask away everything other than the green BG from the noise reduction. See how much noise you see.

Great GHO image. love the details and the green BG. The catch light looks like there is some motion there and then I saw your SS. Did you take some shots at higher SS?

    Karl, Loi,
    Thanks for the comments.

    Loi,
A quick thunderstorm was moving in and I was losing what light I had at this time of day (6:30pm). I quit soon after this shot. The streaky catchlight is actually the sky and treetops reflected in the eyes, not due to movement.

    I think this is lovely.
I love the scalloped texture of the branch and would do minimal NR on it ( say 1 or 2 only).
Great peek-a-boo feel to this as the owl peers around the tree trunk.
BG is excellent for this guy. I would clone out the extra catchlight on the iris (yellow part)
    well done,
    gail

I like this lots, the slightly leaning forward pose is very nice. Love the perch and trunk, great green BG too. Good details. I'm with KD...I basically never apply any NR to the subject and perch, so just on the BG would have been good IMO.

To get a GHO with that background is no small accomplishment! Nice image.

It's amazing how different your GHO look in your neck of the woods vs ours. Ours have more red tones. While your owl is quite special, your tree/perch are very powerful elements to this image and bring so much texture and interest. Nice to see the talons and all the natural light in the eyes. The perfect green BG doesn't hurt either!

Excellent image of GHO. I like the pose with very nice look on his face, beautiful eyes. Slight sharpening only to bird will not harm the beauty of image.
Love the 3D effect caused by powerful element, tree/perch as said by Marina and beautiful green background.Great well balanced composition.

    Regards,
    Satish.
