Hi all well finally back in the Alentejo but still computer issues; Windows hate (8) lol Whilst looking for Montagus Harrier today, I came across a really nice colony of Bee eaters. Managed to get within 12 ft which is not easy lol I have not shufflesd on my butt for a long time haha, and gravel is not kind. I sneaked up behing the tall golden grasses. Frame is 80% of original, its been selectively treated for noise and sharpened Canon 100-400 7D 1700 HOURS, STRONG LIGHT EVENING. F5.6 1/2000 HH Manual exposure, cammo shorts and hat!

Stunning bird, love the bg colours, I would just crop a little more and take some from the left side. Perfect pose. Just got back myself from a week on the Algarve. no decent bee eaters as i was concentrating on hoopoes this time.

Beautiful colors and bird. Love the BKGR especially the oof purple flowers. The barbed wire is less than ideal but is not overly obtrusive.

what a lovely bird, tack sharp of the eye. Love that deep red color. Great feather details here as well. The barbed wire is an issue here, but what can you do? Can't clone it out and let the bird perched in space! Well done.

Magnificent image of colorful bee eater.I don't mind wire as a perch.Beautiful pose and very nice bG.
I think little boost of contrast and sharpening will take the image to notch. Love the frame.

    Regards,
    Satish.

That is very nice Richard!! I would have preferred a rusty weathered barbed wire, but it still OK as is. Excellent colours, details, good comp. Seems really minor, but I would eliminate the small bit of white OOF flower at center bottom edge...

Looking forward to more of these guys from you!

Copy on the flower Daniel, actually I saw that coming lol
thanks for posting; went back to the colony today but the wind was up. They dont like foraging for bees when its windy, so although I heard then , none seen!

    Hi Richard,

Nice bright, sharp image of the Bee Eater - one of my favourite species.

Also spotted them when I was down in Alentejo recently. You certainly are very fortunate with the range of species down your way! And lots of barbed-wire fences!!

    Regards,

    Gerald
