    Default Red capped Parrot

Hi Guys.. A new species I have not seen before. This is a male Red Capped Parrot, sitting in early morning light on top of a TV antenna waiting for its turn at some feed that had been put out for the local bird life by the neighbour of a friend I was visiting... I was sitting under a bush on a hill level with the top of the house... The local Magpies had scared off the Parrots, and before that the Parrots had scared of the Wrens... such is life. 1D4 and 500 F4 at 1/2500 sec @ F4.5, ISO 1000. HH. DON

The bird is nicely exposed, colours look good
plain bg is a nice thing too, the head angle towards you would have made this one over the top.

What a gorgeous bird. Love the color combination. I agree on a bit more contrast and think the bird needs a tad more sharpening.

Looks like a painting, the colours are stunning. A natural perch would be great. Might be worth placing a suitable one nearby if the bird is regular in the area.

    Hello all

Thanks for the nice comments.. I will bump up the contrast when I get home and repost. Ivan, there are natural perch's around the feeder but I guess you know Murphy and his laws... I also have a Female red capped parrot from the same series I intend to post..looks quite a lot different.

Perch notwithstanding, congratulations on obtaining a clean image of such a nervous bird.

It almost looks like a totally different bird! The sharpness is improved in the RP. Do you feel these colors are representative of the bird as seen in the RP? That's what matters most.

    Hello Marina

I used what I think is a luminosity mask to darken the chest area that was facing the full morning sun then resharpened. This has bought the balance of colours across the bird to be closer to what they are like in the wild if feel. If I were to be honest the red might be slightly over done but the remainder is closer in the RP. The back of the bird is still darker than I wanted however. The light was early but direct...

Karl has obviously seen these birds before (this is my first encounter) maybe he could comment on the repost colour? Thank you for your interest Marina..
