It's OK as an environmental portrait Bill, but it's quite busy. The eye is initially drawn to the egret, but it's looking away, so my eye tends to wander. I'd like the egret to focus my attention and hold onto it.

Yep, lots of sticks and stuff. If I ever get a bigger lens I may get a little closer. :)

The BG foliage makes for a nice backdrop, but the dry tree sticking out of the water kinda spoils it. Also wish for a better head angle, and a toned down egret. Good habitat though.

    Bill,

Nice work on the Egret in habitat. You are on the right track making the most of the 100-400mm when the bird is farther away. You placed the bird in a good position in the frame. The BG is a good backdrop. When you get this type of image, stay with it and see if you get the bird's head position better - parallel to you camera position.

The stick in the water is my main concern Lots of clutter making it difficult finding what to concentrate on !!!! I find these type images more difficult than on the bird and clean bg !!!!
