This antler was surprised and just gave a few seconds for the picture. Taken at Wilpattu Wild Life park Sri Lanka.

    Canon 7D 600mm F4 F5.6 1/800 ISO 400 Bean Bag from vehicle.

Cropped for comp, levels curves adjusted, NR on BG and SHP CS6.

    C & C welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hiran

Hi Hiran, a very simple, yet 'classic' pose. Nice techs and certainly the fixed lens come into their own with these great diffused BKGs. I might just lift the white pointer in Levels to around 214, however it does blow some of the highlights in the antlers, but personally I feel it just brings it up a bit. Also with a Curves mid tone I would try to lift (lighten) the ears & nose. The eyes I would work on in RAW just to bring a bit more form to them as they just look solid 'blobs' and I know there is more you can extract having tried it. In the shadow areas if you feel uneasy with Curves try Highlight/Shadow, but remember, this can be an aggressive if you use it hard, gently, gently and use a mask. Nice marking in the coat and the fur has a nice depth & detail, likewise whites look bang on with no cast.

Hi Hiran - nice head on pose and the comp works well, so does the creamy bokeh. As usual, Steve has made excellent suggestions for improvement.

Lovely, classic pose with nice details. Love how it fills the frame. Agree on some of Steve's points. Would also consider a slight CCW crop.

Hi Steve, As suggested changed white pointer in levels, curves mid tone - lightened the ears and nose, brightened the eyes with layers- overlay.
The image looks better now thank you for the detailed explanation of the changes.

Hi Marina, Did try the ccw before posting and found that the head is at an angle as his left ear is raised more than the right. As you also mentioned
this now have done the change, I agree that this makes it look much better. Thanks

    Rachel, Thanks.

Hi Hiran, just quickly looking at the images side by side, albeit on the laptop and there appears to be very little difference, or is it just my old pair of eyes, LOL. If you take the Levels adjustment suggestion for example to 214, it's much brighter compared to the OP & RP.

Hi Steve, My old eyes are the ones that have missed it, when i was sharpening to upload had messed it up. Also did not find a "Preview Post" button to
check the RP. Here it is Levels to 214, Nose and ears lightened in Highlight/shadow and the eyes brightened one round overlay, one round hard light from
    layers.

    Hope I got it right.

    Thank you once again.

Hi Hiran, I think you can put your feet up and congratulate yourself, the second RP is where it needs to be IMHO and shows just with some gentle tweaks the whole image is transformed, well done. If you get a next time and in a similar situation might just try f/8 providing you have the SS, just wonder if it needs a fraction more DOF, or just another round of USM on the nose?

Hope this has helped you extend your PP skills and see what you have actually captured in your camera.

Look forward to the next posting.

Steve, With your advice on PP it now seems done. I will try another round of USM on the nose.

    Marina, Your comment is appreciated.
