Default Loon and chick on the move - Common loon

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was captured several years ago. I had posted another from this series in the past, but felt this one had potential as well.

D300 500mm AFS f/4 @f/8 1/1000sed ISO 500 Pedestal mounted in the bottom of my little boat.

Post: 95% full frame, slight crop from the left, Selective sharpening.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

In a perfect world, would like a bit more room on the right side, but felt that it was still effective and not too bothersome because of the OOF chick.

    Cheers

Works for me! Nice exposure and detail! The similar poses pull it together and the ring of light around the neck adds a nice touch.
Agree about more on the right and in that same perfect world, maybe a tad more on the bottom.

Nice DOF on the beak, great detail in the head and down the neck, eye is tack sharp with contact and great exposure. Like the dual head position.

A bit big in the frame but I like it that way, shows off the beautiful detail in the head of this awesome looking Loon. Techs look great and I like the green BG and the trailing chick. Nice!

    Wonderful image Randy
The details are so good and the exposure is amazing, when i looked at the image i looked directly at the loon and took me some time to move back to the chick
the greens around add a lot to the image , super execution

    Wonderful shot Randy.
Terrific low angle, very lovely light, excellent details, and I like the oof chick.
I think it works very well here.
A bit more room to the right and below would be nice , but still great shot.
    Well done.

Hi Randy, great 3D effect on the head - it really pops out the screen. Im fine with the space on the right, and not bothered with the OOF chick either. Overall, well exposed, the sheen on the head shows up well enough, and of course that eye is tops.

This is quite a powerful image, Randy. The first time I looked at it, I found the adult so stunning that I thought the chick only served to detract. On second look, I find this image works well. The details in those feathers of the adult are just amazing.

That D300 was quite a camera in the right hands. Beautiful image, the little one in the BG really adds to this.

Great perspective. It's refreshing to see a parent/chick loon image, with the chick in the background.
The image tends to make me think of the parental protection being suggested in this composition.
I agree that more room on the bottom would be nice, though I can easily see why you minimized the
    impact of the wavy reflection...
