    Default Grey-Catbird

Hey, new to the site and new to bird photography. Recently got a 200-400mm lens and have been getting shots out of my house, since im not able ot leave.

This one is of a grey catbird.
ISO 800, 1/160, f/4.5. Basic adjusments in LR4 and a little dodging and burning. Cloned out a litttle bit of leaves that were distracting at the bottom center and the top right,

Really cool capture Justin ,It looks like the limb snapped and the bird is displaying it's dissatisfaction . My one negative is the white orb behind the bird's head ,It pulls my eye away from the main subject . Welcome to BPN , Jump in more often ,the water here is fine !

    Justin,

Welcome aboard, lots to like here and good comments from George. The background had potential but as noted the bright spots are a bit distracting; consider using the clone tool to smooth it all out. The tail is real close to the bottom edge consider adding canvas (read a about that in the Educational & Tutorial Form) or adjusting the cope. Yo have a good eye, this is a unique pose and for that you get an A - I love original composition.

One more thing: consider adjusting the mid tones to give the gray more pop,..this can be done in variety of ways in LR4:
Curves and adjusting the black point,..

Nice moment with nature and as you discover lots of action in the backyard.

    Clyde,

You are from Georgia..thats close enough (lol). Yes, I do have a sense of humor with a name like Cashdollar - comes with the territory. Sorry there, do not know what happened Clyde, I just turned 57 on May 12th and the mind is starting to snap.

We should meet in the middle sometime, shoot together and have lunch!
