very nice Jim! OOF birds in the BG usually don't work for me but this one does. it provides depth and somehow balances the composition w/o being distracting, I think it has to do with the relative HA of the two egrets and the fact that the other one is a reddish. great exposure.

Excellent picture. Having the OOF bird in the background was a good idea.

I'm with Arash.....I don't usually like OOF birds but in this case.....I do believe you pulled it off! Very nicely executed!

Usually oof birds look like blobs, but this is nice! Good choice of shooting angle which gave you the reflections. I think you could use a bit lighter hand on your sharpening on the white as his eye looks a bit hard and I see sharpening halos on this legs. Also some NR would help the bg. An image worthy of tweaking!

Beautiful and i am not a fan of OOF birds, but the color makes the image.
    Foreground Egret is very sharp.

Others beat me to it: you pulled this one off nicely. Nice exposure and sharpness on the white one -- halo on the legs notwithstanding. And I love the blue lore.

James, this is awesome. You really executed this well. It has a surreal feel to it that I liked a lot. Light from your left would have been better but you can't have it everything in the field :-) Your positioning of yourself was perfect to get the juxtaposition working.

A very nice example how to make an out of focus bird in the background work.

Killer foreground bird and a loverly choice of perspective. Maybe a foot more to your right would have worked a bit better.

    Wonderful shot.
Great pose on the focused bird and the oof bird works very well here.
Exposed very well and nice shooting angle.
I agree with Grace on running NR on the background.
    Well done.
