    Default 1DX Color Balance issue

I have been using the 1DX for about 4 months now. The majority of my images are from a set up in my yard but I have noticed this issue in other locations as well. I shoot manual mode and AWB 95% of the time and I do RAW conversions with ACR. What I have noticed is that when I open an image in ACR almost all the time the color is slanted fairly heavily toward magenta. Usually in the range of +10 to +15. I have to adjust it on almost every image to avoid a magenta color cast. It occurs with both my 300mm f/2.8L and my 500mm f/4L lenses. Is this a normal tendency for the camera or is it pilot error?

Forgot to add : I have tried evaluative and spot metering and it does not seem to matter.

    Hi Joel,

Is there a menu adjustment to alter color balance ? Just a thought. I shoot Nikon now, and don't recall all the Canon menu options.

Also, maybe try custom white balancing I've had success with the ExpoDisc. It renders accurate colors. There are other systems out there that use cards or cloths.

Yes, there is a custom WB option, several presets and a manual option....I was hoping to avoid the little extra hassle of doing that but it might not be possible.

    Hi Joel,

It is not camera or pilot error. The 1DX AWB is quite good even in mixed lightning. The ACR rendering of 1DX RAW files is quite poor at this time. If you want accurate faithful colors you have to use DPP or fiddle with the custom profile in LR to profile the colors for different lightning conditions. Other than that you have to wait for the next version...

PS. I think Artie posted this issue on his blog a while back

    best luck

Hi Joel- It's possible that your setup has certain colour tonalities that cause this. I have noticed a tendency towards a magenta cast in shady conditions where you have a fair bit of green in the scene. I would try your setup in a completely different situation to see if you get the same result.

Easy method is to set up a custom camera profile in LR , and/or make a new preset in LR and use when importing images. You do not mention if the color shift is present under other conditions? Additionally, do the colors appear correct on the camera LCD?
