Default Barred Owl taking a bath.

This is something you don't see everyday, a juvenile Barred Owl taking a bath. Actually there were 2 juveniles & 1 adult. The 2 juveniles decided to come down to the water and bathe. I struggled to get the best position & light, there were many trees and obstacles. I did manage to capture some special moments.

Mike, this is so cool. What an awesome stare from this fella! He sure doesn't seem to like you snooping on him while having his bath!!

What a unique situation you were blessed with! I like the look of surprise on this individual. You were i a tough spot though, and from the sounds of it you made the most effort possible for a clear perspective. Too bad about the stick at lower left corner, and I would try to add contrast to the area at right that seems washed out compared to the rest of the image...perhaps just selecting that area and then adding to the blacks would suffice.

This is awesome! Never seen an owl taking a bath...The look on its face is priceless...A bit of cloning in Photoshop could be done to remove the stick, although it doesn't bother me that much-I am drawn to the owl's eyes. I agree with Daniel regarding contrast. Lovely image, Mike

Great photo op! The eyes really draw me in. Because the head is in focus, I don't mind the parts that are bit washed out.

    Mike:

A wonderful opportunity well utilized. I have never seen a 'bathing owl' image.

Good advice from Daniel, but I was so captivated by the eyes and pose that only saw those issues on my second look around the image.

    Cheers

Great job on finding this owlet and capturing this amazing behavior. I think you did a great job finding a window.

You had a yellow cast on your image which I removed by adding 10 pts of blue. I added a few points of black in selective color to the eyes and the entire image. I also used a quick mask to remove the stick.

In the future, Mike, it would be very helpful if you would please include your shooting data.
