    Default Oystercatcher stretching

This shot was taken at Tigertail beach at Marco Island thanks to Capt Michael Tateo. I was photographing royal terns when a pair of Oystercatchers flew in. They kept their distance, but after about 20 minutes I was able to get close enough for some full frame shots. This shot is of one of them jumping up, stretching out (guessing on that) and then landing. Action lasted a couple of seconds and this is about as high as he got.

    Shooting info:
    Nikon D800 | 500 f/4 VR + 1.4x
    1/2500" | f/8 | ISO 640

Looks to me like an after-bath wingflap perhaps? The dangling feet with water dripping off is neat. You had some tough hard light to contend with here, and I wish you had more room above. I'm also not fond of the horizon line crossing behind the head.

Thanks Daniel. Sure could be an after-bath wing flap! Yep, definitely shooting in some hard light (I think it was about 1:30 with no clouds, but I'll have to double check). I wasn't sure about the green on top, but I liked the color. If I add some room on top, I'll go ahead and bring the green up further and blend it in a bit smoother to the water/sand near the head. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Great action shot.
Excellent timing, love the danggling feet and wing position.
Light does look harsh, but handled well.
    Well done.

I would like to see the frame after this of you have it.
The pose is but I am not a fan of the green line.

Beautiful shot Miguel. Very nice pose with dangling feet with water dripping from it.Nice composition.
If you are not against cloning, could remove green line on the top.

    Regards,
    Satish.
