Default Nankeen Night Heron on a stick

Another one of these generally nocturnal birds....pretty dull and cold day sadly, a quick grab shot a split second before it left, so no thought in settings...kinda liked it's scrawny fingers lol

Canon 7d + 500 f4....f5, 1/400, ISO 320, manual exposure, tripod mounted, no flash used......selective sharpen, backdrop noise reduction, slight crop

So, bye 4 now, off on a houseboat holiday for a while

Nice work to capture one of these handsome birds in the open like this Phil.
    Also a well composed image.

Very nice image Phil, you did well given the conditions, I like the eye and the curled fingers! Good detail on the feathers. Well done.

    have a great holiday!
We did a houseboat holiday on the Murray River when we lived in Melbourne.
    This is a lovely image.
I like the darker, moodier lighting.
I really like the curly Q's of the branch on the RHS.
I agree the toes and nails are very cool!

Hi Phil, night herons are always special, as they are not always seen in the open like this. Nice and sharp, and I like how he pops against the darker BG.

    Have a great holiday.

    Phil,

Really diggin' the pastel tone of this image. I would usually look into adding a bit more contrast, but I think it works well here :)

    Have fun on your vacation!
