Came across this Grizzly out for the count after a very late night it seems. Having excavated a small hollow in the sand, right by the river, he just collapse and with 'not a care in the world' was well away, dreaming I guess of catching that elusive big salmon! The light colour around the ear & head is just light fur.

Nicely composed and exposed, lovely detail in the fur, the DOF looks spot on.
Just a little puzzled HH = hand held?? yet tripod used?

    Hi Steve,
cool and relaxed looking bear !
Like the composing with the line from left to right and the backdrop in the BG.
Well exposed with good detail in the fur and the FG.

I might consider thinking about reducing the blues in the image via curves ? and the blacks looks a tiny bit too strong in the bear ?
    Just my thoughts.

    Cheers Andreas

Good to see you also posting as well as providing great feedback, Mr K.

The techs are spot on, and the image conveys my vision of a lazy bear. Very slight PP tweak:

Just saw Andreas' comments, and was actually playing with it in PS at the time.

Slight colour curves adjustment for the reds and blues, targeting the darker areas. Also raised midtones a touch.

Interesting Russell, for once I got close to target, 50.3 across the mid WB and was happy to leave the colouration in the fur, but can see the difference in the RP, thanks.

Perhaps you could explain to the others how you changed the Curves, as I have broken more nails typing on here today and would be great to have another voice too. It just helps others.

Cheers and nice to see you commenting, appreciate it too.

Hi Steve - this works with the bear facing you and the inclusion of the environment. Also interesting to see the remnants of the dug out depression behavior. Russell's repost has taken an already excellent image up a notch.

No worries, Steve, it is a really small tweak, and just takes the image up a notch :)

PP steps were quite straight forward, as I wanted to change the darks/blacks:

    1) Create a threshold layer and identify the darkest area, and left a color sampler one of the darkest areas on the bear
    2) I used the black dropper where I placed the colour sampler - I also have blacks set at 10,10,10
    3) Lumo curves with light -subtractiing light lights (just lifted the dark side of the curve a fraction)

Nice subject in an interesting unique pose and setting.
I like Russell's repost as it adjusted the Magenta caste I thought the OP has.

Cool shot Steve. A different look than the usual bear posting. He certainly looks comfortable.

Such a cool shot Steve. Good discussion as well from Russel on the tweaks that are possible if we expand our PP horizons a bit.
