I ran out yesterday morning to shoot this species, male and female.
The place is a roadside marsh where the road has a double curve and is fairy busy.
The farmer from accross suggested to park on his driveway, so I did.
I won't go back as I don't want to overuse his hospitality.
The blue in the background is the water.
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Karl. I really like the bg colors here. Composition is nice too. If this were mine I think I would try to tone down the bright round area on right so it blends better with the oof cat tail below it.(specular hilite?)

Love the colors and details in the exposure. The ones I've shot always look a blah brown. Maybe different coloration here and there? (Or maybe it's the photographer...)

    Karl,

Wonderful capture with a great perch! Curious, how do you tell a female apart from a Juvenile? I don't think I've seen a female with a red band before (but then again, I never get good shots of them either!).

Lovely environmental feel to this one, Karl, and you had a killer pose and light to top it off.

Hi Karl, I always enjoy these comps with the subject perched high in the frame. You have a nice pose with the open beak too, and I wouldnt change a thing on the BG. Well captured.

Thanks Miguel. You have a good point.
I just checked it in the Sibley and in fact it is a male.
