    Nice BG and bird.
Excellent IQ . I really like how the bird is perched on the cone.
I wish the OOF cones were not OOF. If mine, and not a contest entry, I would clone that whole branch and cones away. It might be easier to just put a new perch up!!

    Nicely done Jonathan.

Killer background and perch, something to consider with Gail's suggestion.

Hi Jon, if you have it a tad more space below, just drop the crop a bit as the cone I feel is a little close to the trim. Like the beak being open adds a nice touch. Would look at dropping the Blue around -45, just helps the chest & body plumage.

    Very nice!

I agree with more space on the bottom, if you have it, and less on top.

The OOF cones don't bother me but it looks like the branch is oriented incorrectly -- should the cones be pointing up? Or down? Would be interesting to re-orient it and see if it still makes a good perch.

Good advice so far. I would also suggest either physically swinging back the perch so the OOF branch and cones are more parallel to the camera and thus more easily within DOF range...or realign your own position to get that angle. I do love how the redpoll is perched atop one of those cones and the open bill pose is very nice. Nice BG and details too.

Nice perch, pose and background, Jonathan. More DOF would have been nice.

Excellent image. Great IQ, nice lights and perch.
Love the pose with open beak, colors and nice smooth backdrop.
Would crop till next to OOF corn on RHS.

Thanks very much everyone, the perch as pointed out is not oriented correctly, I remember now, normally I am quite fussy over something like this but I lost true site over what I was doing, I needed to get the bird the bird on that cone and the only way that would happen was by having the twig that way up.
