    Default Gnatcatching

    First Post!
I took this while out photographing warblers at a local forest preserve. Its Blue-grey Gnatcatcher living up to its name ;)
    D7000, Nikon 300mm f2.8 VRII + 2xTC
    f7.1, 1/1000, ISO 200
Cropped, shadows lightened a bit in Lightroom

I had some reservations about posting this photo - I know it is not perfect. Any critiques/criticisms are welcome, as I am still a beginner!

    Kirk,

    Welcome - nice picture.

Nice action picture and a fun moment with nature. Remember you shoot the light not the subject and the subject is in a shadow - that is the main opportunity here. I like the way the branches and leaves frame the subject consider balancing the frame a bit. For example, the leaves in the bottom right hand corner could be cloned and the white twig in the upper right hand corner removed.

Just curious, do you carry an external flash for opportunities like this well. I am glad you posted, this is an education forum. Keep posting and comment on others work too,..you will improve,...we are all here to learn.

    Jeff-
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your advice on shooting the light not the subject. I cloned out the leaves as you suggested and posted on the other "Gnatcatching" thread. I don't have an external flash, but realize that it would help at times like this. Also, I apologize for the accidental triple post - feel free to delete the duplicates. I thought the pictures had not been accepted because the files were to large. Again, many thanks!
