A lifer for me. Taken at Fort DeSoto.

~ 70% FF. I thought about cloning out the very tiny little black line between the mandibles near the crab. Let me know if you think it should go.

Great shot and a very complimentary crop. Prey definitely adds and I really like the elements from the environment left in-- i.e. the black vegetation. I suppose a slightly lower angle could have improved the shot, and I'd get rid of that black speck to the left of the lower mandible--not sure if that's part of the black line you mentioned or not. It's really nice that the bird is so parallel to you which allowed you to keep the beak in good focus. Light is beautiful, really nice Gail.

    Gail,

Always great to add a lifer to the list, especially when you can get a clean shot like this one.

As Lyle mentioned, a bit lower of an angle couldn't have hurt. I like the in-focus vegetation on the right, but would consider removing the oof behind and in between the legs.

    Gail:
Wonderful image of curlew with open beat and crab. Love the colors, pose, details, nice lights,IQ and composition.
Would remove black OOF part below the tail,in between the legs and orange speck in LLC.

    Regards,
    Satish.

    Gail:

Lovely light, nice timing, prey adds, attractive bird.

I would soften the dark squiggle between the mandibles, just because it is so close to the crab, and your eye will naturally go there. I am OK with the rest of the beach debris.

Because of the neutral bg, the shooting angle works OK for me.

    Cheers

Beautiful light, excellent sharpness, glad the long bill and crab are in the plane of focus.

excellent pose and sharp details, the food item is great so is the golden light.

Congrats for the 1DX, you should have cranked up the ISO to 1600 to get more shutter speed, I think it would have made the crab a bit sharper.

    Congrats...

Oh you are very lucky Gail, was Nicki with you? Love it with the grab and that long bill makes it over the top for me.

I knew that it was in area but my little time at DeSoto I didn't see it, oh well there's always next year.

A wonderful image, Gail. Beautiful light, and a perfect light angle. Catching the crab in mid-toss is a very big plus! Catching the entire bird and its bill in the sensor plane is difficult, and well done. I've found it difficult to get the feather detail really sharp around the eye of the long billed curlew, and you've nailed it with this image.

Hi Gail, congrats on your first of this species, and captured in exquisite light. I do like the colours of the Curlew, and you have certainly nailed the sharpness. Im totally fine with the angle of capture, and your 'black line' is fine as is - would never have noticed it anyway.

Stunning bird well captured, for me the POV works, the exposure is spot on,great comp, would lose the black glitch below crab, but leave the rest.

Love it, such a fine timed image with open bill and crab, like the fine detail and golden toned on the bird.......fine line between the mandibles, leave it...it's natural and barely noticeable
