    Default Marbled Godwit ... Landing

Taken at Ft Desoto on day 4 (or was it 5?) of my trip. Thanks to Marina for the helpful tips about the NorthShore. It turned out to be filled with great shorebirds, including a pair of Short-billed Dowitchers which were a lifer for me.

Big mistake on this image ... it was about 2.5 stops overexposed. I was shooting a willet that was in the shade when I was informed of this guy coming in from my right. Not enough brains to change the exposure, so this capture came in HOT. IT was toned down in LR, but the colors remained overly saturated. Brought them down as well. As I've never seen one of these guys coming in for a landing, I would appreciate insight on the color of the wings.

    Shooting Info:
    Nikon D800 | 500 f/4 VR +1.4x
    1/800 | f/8 | ISO 2500

I don't now what it should look like but it looks great to me. I love the colours and the background, the outstretched wings and the raised foot - what excellent timing.

Above is the original capture OOC. Ouch!

Below is a link to the original DNG if anyone wants to try to play with it. Thought we might get some interesting results since the original exposure was so far off. Definitely interested in seeing what others come up with.

Well, I'm the last one who should comment about the colors of a shorebird! I echo Jonathan's comments. The only improvement would be the beak not intersecting with the body quite as much. Beautiful bird, beautiful setting.

This is very good, sharp with great wing positions. I can't comment on the color only that you made a remarkable recovery in post. What a sensor on the D800!

Thanks for showing the original. I wish we all did this when there are major changes to an image.
Recovery looks good and I think your OP shows the actual colors of Fort Desoto.
Good IQ. I am OK with the beak but find myself wishing the legs were not crossed over one another.
I like the shadow on the belly and the almost symmetrical wing position,
    Gail

Wonderful image and fantastic recovery of the data!

What would you think about lightening the green areas, and maybe burning in a gradient in the bottom half of the water -- the image is top-heavy, to me.

Hi Miguel, easier to darken than lighten for obvious reasons, the OP looks spot on to me, good PP and everything works well IMHO. Love the outstretch wings a slight leg lift. Perhaps a few Curve adjustments, but I think it looks good as is and anything more will be over kill and loose the quality you have.
