    Default Rooiputs Lion Clan-The Reunion

Emotions ran high when Charlie of Rooiputs-an impressive male lion-approached two lionesses and their young. What we anticipated as potential conflict proved to be the warmest and affectionate scene, with all members of the pride running towards Charlie showing tremendous joy for having him back after a period of absence.

(I have read and followed Steve's thread on "saving for web"-thank you Steve)

    Looks like an awesome moment.
Gabriela, in order for the community to properly critique (and enjoy) your image, I would suggest re-uploading to the max allowable size...which has recently unofficially been increased to 1200px wide and 400kb large.

I love the light and the tender moment you captured. It surely does evoke a joyful feeling.

Hi Gabriela - fantastic moment, well captured. The pano works but I do wish for a bit more room on the left and the inclusion of the entire tail. Don't forget to include your techs/exif when posting as it can sometimes help with the critiques.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Great moment that you captured here. The dust surrounding the lions convey the actions and the joy can be clearly seen in the lions' expression. Agreed with Steve on more room for the inclusion of the tail.

    That's better!
I love the dust and the moment. To my eyes it could be a tad sharper at this size - one more slight round of sharpening should do the trick.
Did you lighten the leftmost lion's eyes? It looks a bit funky?

I too wish for a tad more space LHS - perhaps crop a bit more to "halfway into the lion"?
BPN uploads don't include an option to view EXIF as in the other place you are used to - so we ask posters to include the SS, aperture and ISO (and any other relevent information pertaining to the shot) in the post.

Thank you all for your reply and critique-I am learning so much already Morkel, I am very grateful for you taking the time to help me with everything-here is what I managed to do: I took the RAW image and started work from the beginning, trying to apply some of the advice received. First of all, I straightened the image and when cropping I left a bit more space at the top. I tried to crop from the left halfway into the young lion but the image seemed "out of balance" somehow, so I decided to do something I avoided in the beginning, which is a cloning tip of the tail after I added a bit of canvas on the left side. It wasn't easy (is it visible?) but I thought it necessary in order to save the image. The tip of the tail was not perfect, so I added some dust to hide its imperfections (I hate cloning). I did not saturate as much I did the first time, this version is closer to the original. And I did not touch the eyes of the young lion on the left (thanks again Morkel) Finally, I did another round of sharpening after converting to JPG.

Apologies for forgetting to mention the settings, Rachel! I keep forgetting...Here they are:

    Nikon D3S
    Nikon VR 500mm/F4
    1.4 converter
    F 5.6
    -0.3 EV
    ISO 400

Great image with lots of activity! Wonderful that the male has his head right on top of the center female and that she is looking right at you! Nicely balanced with the 2 side lions with complete tails . The dust adds greatly to the activity. I'm always interested in seeing the camera techs - what was camera speed?

Hello Nancy, thank you for taking an interest in this image, I appreciate your input very much. The speed was 1/2500s.

    Kind regards

Great image Gabriela, really lovely light and the dust adds a nice mood too. You last RP is right on the money for me, image has a bit more punch and the inclusion of the tail and more space on the LHS had made all the difference. Very well done

A super image I like the final submission, my first reaction to the first was "I wish it was 1200px and have you been monkeying around with the eyes, and is there a tad more space on the left?" I see you have addressed these points well done - first class!!

Great image, all has been said already above. RP looks much better and pano looks great with this one.
I am slow I know, I just try to adapt to the speed of the country I am living in as a "alien / foreigner"

    Have a great day

Thank you Morkel! Was convinced I sized it right, do not know what happened. Still getting used to this website, forgetting to add this and that and not always doing things right...But I am enjoying this tremendously, spent the whole week-end in front of the computer reworking some images and working on some new stuff...Love the crits, I am really improving!

    Have a great week, Morkel!
