Hi John- It's ironic with such a beautiful duck but I really like the frozen water drops in front of the bird. I think a couple of things could be done to the image, and a third you'll have to imagine. First the imagination part- what of those out of focus grass stems were not running across the body of the bird. Then crop quite a bit off the bottom and lighten up the image some. I think I can see your logic of keeping so much of the foreground in the image- almost like as the viewer you are hidden from the bird and peering through the grass at it. However, I think it would be a stronger portrait if that element was not there.
Thank you, John and Wayne, for your comments.
I agree, the eye and head are not as sharp as I usually like, yet, with this particular image and intended mood, I left it.
John, I have some images similar to what you suggest, without the grasses covering the duck, and I like them also. I also thought about cloning out the top of the stick and left it.
I prefer the image I posted for it more closely conveys the scene and emotions I experienced.

Very nice duck, beautiful colors. I'm with John Chardine, I think the bird is too much dead center for me. Lowering the duck in the frame would make it a thronged image I think while you can still leave the OOF grass.
