Wow, lots of great images posted lately. It's a bit intimidating but here goes. Another desert elephant from Damaraland, Namibia in August 2012.

    Canon 5D3
    70-200 II @ 120mm
    1/1250
    7.1
    ISO 400
    EC +.33
HH from safari vehicle, luminosity mask, levels, curves, selective color adjustments, straightened and sharpened in CS6.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Lovely! Great composition, setting and handling of tonalities. There's a glitch along the top edge where it looks like you straightened a BG copy layer.

Lovely light capturing the multitude of wrinkles and lines on the elephant. That nice layer of green is a very effective compositional element, giving good separation of foreground and bkgd and adding color in a mostly tan environment. Likewise with the dark sky layer.

Hi Rachel, I think you were rushing on this one, as there are a few tweaks required. If you address them, plus add a mid tone luminosity layer and I think you would be set. Perhaps a +5 Vibrancy, but personal taste.

BTW - NO one should feel intimidated, post away, we are just a big family here, you know that.

Whoops, that's what happens when I decide it needs a little straightening at the last minute, am trying to get out the door for court and haven't had any caffeine yet. . I'll fix it tonight but thanks for the comments.

The eye of the viewer is taken to the different shapes of detail from the tree, grass and the body of the elephant. A very nice image with sharp detail and well exposed.

Now that looks better. Just heading out the door to Canon, but is there a little too much red in the blue of the sky? Will have a proper look later.

I am always amazed when I see an image that looks really good and with a few tweaks it looks even better! This is the kind of eye I hope to cultivate and really appreciate those postings with the "before" and "after"!

Oh yes the RP is 100% improved, just shows how important the cup of personality is in the morning Really like this, great tones, good detail and colours, only the sky that is a little of maybe, perhaps it was slightly overcast thus the darker sky in that case its fine, but i would like it a little lighter and bluer, just a personal taste possibly

Thanks everyone, I very much appreciate the comments. Re the sky, the skies in Namibia often have the thick sea mist present, even far inland.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Rachel,
The repost is an improvement, just a lot going on in the photo for me.
As good as the Elephant looks, my eye is drawn to the tree and the foreground brush.
