Well it was Saturday past but I thought I would mention it.
And you don't necessarily think of migratory birds when you see a Virginia Rail. After all, they are not the best flyers in the world. But they are indeed migratory.
You could go for years without an opportunity to photography this secretive species unless you use some enticement- in this case a recording of a male calling. This will bring them in but still the challenge is to get a clear shot. In this case I chose a portrait because the lower part of the body was buried in grass.

That is a great image, the detail is spot on the and I feel like I ma looking him in the eye and not an image, the lighting is perfect and the water in its beak, is very nice! ;)
