    I had this pic lined up to post so am posting it... I had posted another shot of this tern a couple of weeks ago but I think this one has better light. To get the eye on these birds you have to either have the sun behind you or use flash.

    1D4, EF400mm f/5.6L
    Manual mode, f/7.1@1/3200 ISO 400 WB 4900K
    AI Servo autofocus, hand-held no flash

    Really nice capture, Kerry!
    Good detail in the feathers, sharp eye and head, smooth BG, wing position and orientation all good.

    Very Nice Kerry!

    I have never shot one of these but I know with any bird that has a black hood or what have you over the eye, it is hard to bring out the eye...you did great on this one!

    The Comp, detail, BG, eye catch/contact, all work for me...the fish in beak is just gravy, very well done!

    You may be even ready to go to the "Avian" forum, instead of the ETL!

    Sweet shot. like it as posted. What a difference the catch light makes on birds with dark heads.

    kerry...beautiful capture! Everything about it is just great esp the whites, and the catchlight. I also really like the bg..it helps give a real sense of motion!
