I created this tight pattern image at the famed Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, Holland on the recently concluded Tulip IPT.
I was seated behind the tripod-mounted Canon 180mm macro with the EOS-5D Mark III. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/30 sec. at f/8. Live view for Mirror Lock and a live histogram and 2-second timer for additional sharpness.
Get in touch if you would like to join Denise and me in Holland next April. See more of my flower images on the blog here, here, and here.

Hi Artie, this type of floral shot is one of my favorites. The sharpness is incredible at the tip, it really brings your eye to the point. Like the lime green tip and the yellow in the background, very nice.
Hi Artie. I like the even light and the mix of colors in the flower. The shallow DOF works well here with the sharp edge of the petal leading my eye to the "V" - nice placement of the "V" in the ROT position. Very well done!
Artie you started me on the tulips now - don't tell my wife but I snipped one off yesterday and took some shots but I wasn't happy. I find these "abstract" (is that the word?) images very interesting, sometimes they really get my attention and sometimes not.
I am sorry but I am not so keen on this one, the previous one yes but this one seems to be composed of a big green patch and big whitish patch and a streak of pink in between. The V shaped petal does take my eye but the two contrasting colours keep pulling may attention away and as a result my eyes don't rest.
Perfect focus and shallow dof. Outstanding colors. The green tip of the petal stands out nicely. Nice composition and lovely smooth bg. Dennis (in OOTB) often suggests flipping images. I tried it, making the point be on the left. Not better, just different.
