    Default Western Bowerbird

April, Ormiston Gorge, NT. These charismatic birds are quite common in the Australian interior - as you wander around in the bush you often hear their characteristic screech.
    D800, 300 2.8, 1.7TC, f8, 1/500, ISO 800.
    Thanks, Greg.

    Nice one here Greg
The rock perch is so nice and inclusion of those small shrub around it adds a lot to the image, gives the viewer where the bird normally found.
Colours on the bird are nice love them, you have made this image very impressive with a clear eye and a amazing BG

The quality of light on this is extra good Greg as is the extra clear eye, like the vocalising posture and smooth backdrop. Never understood why we don't have a single species of Bowerbird here in Sth Oz and I've only ever seen them in inland Qld and NSW

I reckon this would be one of your dream shots, great pose actually doing something, a perfect background and an ideal perch - couldn't ask for more. The little crest at the nape of the neck is really eye catching.

Excellent soft light, great pose, perch and background. The vegetation around the rock makes it more interesting. Great work, Greg.

This is my first time to see this bird, it is a stunner. Great colors overall, great IQ, painterly BG. I love the little bit of different color on the back of the neck.

Wow is all that I can say!!! Wow, wow, wow. Great bird, greatcalling pose, nice BKGR, nice rock perch, and a perfect EXP. Best thing? The purple feathers on the hind crown. Are they visible at all times?

A bit more head turn toward us would improve an already wonderful image.

Thanks for the comments guys. Arthur, the lilac feathers on the back of the head are always visible, but they raised (like a crest) during courtship displays.
This species is one of a number of bowerbird species here in Australia - the males construct an elaborate dome of twigs called a "bower" to impress the female - in which they place collected items usually all of the same colour (blue bottle tops, glass pieces etc).
    Fascinating species,
    Cheers, Greg
