    Default Blue Jay...First online posting

    Attached Images Attached Images

Hi! This is my first online image post...so be nice...Just kidding! LOL I have never posted online but I am tired of being on the sidelines...watching. This is a Blue Jay that I shot a couple days ago out near my feeder...I get about 20 of these at a time sometimes..it is like the attack of the Blue Jays! LOL I realize it is kind of centered but...it is, what it is, as there was no more room to widen/crop it without other obstructions to remove and such and I really am not that proficient in my PPing, yet. I really am not sure why, but I cannot do paragraph or page breaks for some reason, I hit enter and nothing. So please bare with me...with everything in one big paragraph. I am "ETL" but was not expecting to learn how to make paragraph/sentence breaks. LOL Info on photo: 5D III, 400mm, f-8, 1/200, ISO 400...sorry if I forgot anything. Have a good one!

I love this picture; its sharp, colorful and well composed. So what that it does not on the rule of third grid point. The lighting is also very well done. Congratulations.

Thank you Reza! I appreciate the nice compliments...as far as the rule of thirds...I try, but if it is not there...it is not there. As long as it is a good clear shot...I can live with it and hope others like it. ;) Thanx again!

Welcome to BPN, Michael, and congrats on your first post. That was the toughest one for me back over 5 years ago! Terrific details you have in this Blue Jay's feathers, and the colors are stunning. You have a very nice head turn on the bird and it's nice to see those toes gripping the perch. While I would prefer a little more space top and right, this is a very nice image.

I will contact someone about your page break issues and see if it can't be remedied.

Thanx Marina...What is funny is I cropped off about a 1/2" - 1" from the top before posting it...I guess I should just leave well enough alone! However there was no more room to the right...my suet feeder is right there...you can see the suet on its beak. I actually took the spot removal brush and took off a little piece that was sticking out. I appreciate the comments/compliments...now that I took that leap...hopefully it will be less stressful the next time! LOL >>>I would greatly appreciate knowing why I cannot do breaks. LOL I have pushed and looked every button on my keyboard trying to figure it out and it is only on here that I have this problem. Have a good one!

    Hi Michael:

If you had more room at the top and none on the right, you cropped where necessary. It helps to think of your frame cut into thirds when you are actually looking through your viewfinder and composing the image.

I have sent a PM regarding your issue.

Great first post Michael. That is one sharp Blue Jay. I don't even have a decent Blue Jay shot myself.

Thank you Eric! I get so many at once sometimes it is unreal...I an used to small birds and when the show up it is quite different but they are a beautiful bird.

Thanx for the welcome and look forward to seeing/talking to you more.

    Have a good one!

Wonderfully sharp and detailed, and great colors. Hope to see more from you!

Don't feel obliged by the rule of thirds. It's only a guideline and sometimes it just doesn't work well with the subject. I see quite a few crops that look like someone felt obligated to "obey the rules" when it didn't work well with the subject. A static portrait-like pose is less likely to need room for the subject to move into, or look into.

This one might have used a little more on the right but the crop as is is not a flaw in my book.

Very nice shot Michael! I love the feather detail and the depth of field is really good with the whole bird in the focus plane. As for the not being able to paragraph, I am having the exact same issue. It really makes it hard to submit a decent post sometimes!

    Thank you Michael!

I appreciate it, in return, I will help you out. ;)

I figured out the problem, I used to moderate at a forum, once upon a time and I remembered we had issues at one time.

So here is how you fix it:

    Go up to the top right of the page and got to "Settings" then scroll down to General Settings; then scroll down until you see this ;

    Miscellaneous Options

    Message Editor Interface:

Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
Basic Editor - A simple text box
Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls

Uncheck Full WYSIWYG Editing then check Standard Editor - Extra Formatting controls

    Then hit Save

    You will be all set!

    Have a good one!

Hi Michael- I'm late to the party but it's never too late to extend a warm welcome to BPN!

This is a beautiful image. Jays are not easy. Being crows, they are too clever! Love the colour and sharpness. Good self-critique on the composition. I think a little more room on the right would be a good thing.

    Hi John!

Ah, No worries, I do not feel like people are ever late, they just like to make an delayed entrance! LOL

    Thanks for welcome and C+C!

I was shocked at how big they actually are when they showed up, you are correct, BIG and SMART, but very colorful and great subjects if you can get them to hold still long enough! LOL

Yeah I knew it needed more space but it is not there and I am not proficient enough to take out the obstacles in the way, so other than that, it seems good to go! ;)

    have a good one!

Thanks for the editing tip. I was unable to use my enter key either, after following your instructions it now works.

The blue jay image is gorgeous, did you use flash? Either way it is an excellent image, well lit and sharp.

LOL, Thanks Jack, No problem on the editing tip! ;)

Nope, no flash, just all natural lighting.

    Have a good one!
