    Default Low Light Cardinal

It was very cloudy and rainy here this morning. D800, 300mm, 1.4 tc, tripod, Sb910 flash. 1/100, f6.3, iso 1000. Cropped and WB in ACR. Cleaned up beak and worked on eye and USM in CS6. Found this perch in the woods this morning and stuck it in a pot full of dirt, placed bird seed at the base of the perch. This cardinal was threatening a Red Bellied WP.

    Wow
I love the bird and the perch, amazing details perfect sharp focus and a different pose of the cardinal male than usual
    Lovely moss on the perch.

I am not sure on just one thing , just may be my monitor, in top 1 inch of the BG the colors look odd something like the jpeg artefacts , i am not sure if its really there or just my monitor since i dont see any of those patterns on the bird or the perch.

Thanks Vishal, the upper part of the image is a transition into some dark woods, looks very noisy, I did not see that before.

Just some NR on the top of the BG and this is another killer Cardinal photo!
You really do nail the color.

Nice one Jack, and you've made the square crop very well. Awesome perch, isn't it fun to bring one like that home to use on yrad birds!

Now that perch was a great find. Would love to see a woodpecker on it (not that there's anything wrong with the cardinal!) Interesting pose, and good control of the reds. A bit more noise reduction on the background wouldn't hurt.

Hi Jack, the soft light has brought out the detail and reds on the cardinal so well. Love the leaning pose looking down the line of the perch, and yes, the moss covered perch will come in handy on many more occasions. A great image and set up.
