    Default Meadow Mist

Another one short on IQ but a different look for one of my favorite subjects. Woke to a very foggy morning and decided to search out some of these guys before it all burned off. Quite a bit off in the distance, I had to use the TC on the 500 and crop a bit all around. Tried to get some detail while still keeping the misty look. The wet brought out some of the color in the still dry grasses. 7D, 700mm, f5.6, 1/1250s, ISO 800. HH.

Hi Steve, love the comp, space & position works well and the colours give the image a nice feel.

    Nice one.

Hi Steve - you definitely retained that misty feel well and the comp works for me, though I can also see this as a pano with some off the top. I'm curious as to what you think affected the IQ because your techs look good. So do you think it was the tc, the distance to subject or something else?

    Hi Steve,

this looks very good to me. The mist, the colors looks great. The comp is as well great, but would try out Rachel's suggestions with a pano. That takes a bit "white" of the empty sky!

    have a great day

    Ciao

Good eye to see the scene & mood in the foggy morning and single antelope. The hint of detail in the fine line of grass between the OOF foreground and bkgd flows well from the single in-focus animal and gives him something to stand on. The line also gives a fine, subtle division to the soft layers of colors.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions. Pano crop works for me too.

    Rachel,
They were way out in the prairie and the mist was kind of moving in alternating thick and thin patches. Although somewhat minimized here, the lower sky BG had what looked like heat shimmer (no heater on in car, engine shut off, but perhaps caused by shooting through radiant from the vehicle?) I suspect it was a combination of all the things you mentioned.

    Top notch, Steve.
Great mood and soft focus look without looking OOF.
