Much as I usually like a subject large in the frame, I find this an intriguing and mystical setting, which I really like. Good catch!

Tim , i would say this is a interesting composition choice you have here
The bird is the subject here and i feel the big dark tree in the Right is overpowering the frame a bit to my eye. Nice even as presented

Hi Tim,
I do like the idea here, but it has a few issues. The OOF tree trunk is too dominant, if it were in focus it would have helped the composition but since it is OOF it's more of a distraction. The bird is too small in the frame and doesn't show much detail. maybe it looks better at larger size
BTW, as a member you can post up to 1200 pixels wide
TFS keep them coming

A scene everyone can relate to i think, nice mood and serenity.....but agree with previous comments

I like the idea you were going for just wish to see more detail and view of the birds face

Tim...definately a concept worth developing as it's full of mood and sense of place. That big trunk kills it for me, but again, effort and imagination applauded!

The moss-covered part of the tree is OK with me, it's kust the black part at the edge that really competes for attention...maybe if you crop that by half or 2/3s ? The eye gets lost at that small size, perhaps enhance an already existing reflection would work. Interesting concept though, I really like the idea you were going for here.

I think it's great as is...by great, I mean Studebaker great, which is really saying something.
It's a wee bird size wise and the sense of scale added by the trunk on the right, fits that idea
perfectly. Love the curving "perch", and the all the space between it and the trunk, leaves plenty
of room for flycatching.

Thanks Shawn. I did leave a lot of room around the bird because of its behavior, and I also left the big tree in for dimension. Good eye as usual. Thanks a lot.

I like the concept and I have absolutely no problem with the size of the bird in the frame...absolutely none! I have attempted similar shots...put away the 500 and got out the 300 or 100-400 out to get a bird small in the frame and smaller than you have obtained here! A bird in a landscape does not have to be packed with detail...it just needs to be indentifiable to make the image evocative.
However, for the image to work I think habitat needs a magical quality across the frame. The dark trunk is dominant and the perch is unattractive with little else in between. The image might have worked better if green leaves packed out the image giving it colour or if the image was taken when shafts of golden light were breaking through vegetation.
A valiant effort though.
