You have so many nice shots of these guys but this one is not working for me. It looks kinda scared. Whats the white around the frame?

Part of the outer nest. It was curious, not scared and was checking out the torch light. :) I only shot a series of shots.

I followed the family for 2+ weeks, they are used to the property owner and myself being around.
I really like shot personally, I especially appreciate this even more considering the process of getting this kind of shots. No birds were harmed in the creation of this shot, as tater of fact, s/he has fledged and joined the family.

Troy this shot is suggestive that you cornered this owl in its burrow. I am sure you had good intentions, but how many young aspiring photographers may admire your work, and think this is an acceptable practice?

Mid range telephoto lens has been used to create many images like this before. In what part of the image did it suggest that I cornered the burrow? If that was the case, why would the OOF branch be part of the image?

First off the face is lit well and very sharp. We get to see into an owl nest with this shot, that is a first for me. Troy you should have known that you would get beat up over this shot. I for one do not subscribe to the idea that every time a human gets too close to a wild animal it leaves the country, quits eating, dies, etc., etc.

Thank you Jack. I totally agree with you on that.
I know I may get beat up on this shot but I'm ok with it because I know the bird was not harmed in any ways and he/she is now with its parents.

Really cool work Troy and from photographing owls and seeing all the owlet images on the web I'd say the expression is more curious than scared.

Oh come on you guys, owls never get scared. I like this different shot showing inside the nest, something we generally don't get to see. I figure you should've included the disclaimer in your OP that no owls were harmed during this photo shoot. I understand how people ignorant of the background may kick up some dust. I would've been one of them, had I not read the posts above. I like the framing provided by the outer nest, it shows how hidden the nest is.
