    Default A King in Waiting

    Attached Images Attached Images

A young male looks on at the sleeping herd of buffalo, as the sun rises creating a beautiful rim lighting effect. It is always great to see young males like this as they have survived to an age of adolescence against all odds, but just as thing start to look up, reality sets in. Times are only going to get harder for him in the near future, already his father has taken acceptance to his presence in the pride and takes every opportunity to try expel him from his pride, soon this will be the case, leaving the young male to fend for himself, a lonely nomad who belongs no where. But with time he will grow strong and he too may have to opportunity to be king and rule the land just as his father did.

Hi Brendon - Nicely composed, good detail and you handled the lighting well. I do find my eye drawn to the brighter chin and mouth area so I wonder if trying to tame that area just slightly would improve the image.

Hi Brendon, a very regal pose and I really like how the whole image is lit. Not sure if you can tame the hotspots, as they do look blown, but then perhaps with something like this it works, personally I'm happy either way.

BTW is it -1 or -0.67 EV, I guess based on the camera EXIF it's -0.67?

I think this is quite nice. I like the negative space he has to look into, and I'm not at all worried by the white highlights in this particular image. Sometimes blocked or blown tells the lighting story better than finding the detail in every zone. Very dramatic image, Brendan.

Love it - great exposure mate.
Hot spots are always an issue with these but I've learned not even to notice them as it's near impossible to get right if you still want detail in your subject.

Very dramatic! I like that the bkgd has just a bit of texture still in it and is not totally flat black. I might try another version with a little more room on top (to follow the vertical pose of the lion) and a little less room on the right so it stays balanced.

Hi Brendon, this is a great image of the lion. I am not bothered much with the Highlights on the mouth at all. The BG is great that still a bit detail can be seen.

    Have a great day

Thanks very much all for your great comments and advice as always. Steve i see the camera Exif says -0.67 but im sure i dialed in a -1.0 exposure, would probably go with the Cameras Exif as opposed to my memory tho

Great intense expression, very lovely image. I am not bothered by the "blow" highlights. In a perfect world detail is always nice but I don't think it hurts this image at all. Gen

Impressive image, Brendon. Just love your use of lighting here. Agree that the empty space really works.
