Setup. The RHW have been back about two weeks now, today they finally came down to the setup. D800, 300mm, 1.4 tc, tripod. 1/125, f6.3, iso800. SB910 flash at 1/16 from about 15 ft. Brought down the highlights and whites just a bit and cropped in ACR. Small levels adj., selected the head and adj. reds just a tad, nr on bg, USM on bird and perch. Added canvas to the top ( first time I ever added canvas), all in CS6.

This is about the most beautiful woodpecker I have ever seen.
One would never know it is a setup either.
I might move it just a tad down in the frame although you would have to add more canvas.
    Superb photo!

Jack, I echo Dan's comments. Wonderful work...I really love the way that the bird is holding on to the trunk with his foot, balancing with his tail, and giving you great eye contact. Nicely exposed and composed. I hope that this bird is a regular visitor to your yard and that we get to see more images of him (or her?)

Superb image Jack! Really love the HA, perch and colors in this! Wonderful detail. Maybe just a touch more room at the top but I still love it as is.

Very nice, Jack. Perfect head angle, great colours and plumage. Good details. I agree with more room above and I wouldn't mind the image a tad lighter, not much more. Was there some processing done along the bottom edge of the trunk?

I like the pose, sharpness, exposure, details, perch and flash work. I was wondering about the area Daniel referred to at the underside of the perch. Very well done Jack!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Daniel and Jim- I cloned away a distraction in the BG and I see that it was poorly done, good eye.

What a gorgeous bird! I have a pair visiting my set up this year for the first time. You captured it beautifully, great color and detail.
