Hi Peter, what colours does this fellow not have - certainly varied and striking. The BG is busy, but nicely OOF, and I would run another round of NR on the BG. I feel the IQ is just not there, is this a large crop?

...and a beautiful bird it is! What amazing colours. I'd have preferred its body more parallel to the camera, and opening up the aperture would have helped give you a smoother BG (there is rarely a need for f/10 in situations like this). Thanks for posting this awesome species!

    Hey Peter,

As mentioned by Stuart and Daniel, the colors are wonderful on this guy. I like the pose with the turned head.

I do agree that the IQ is lacking - possibly from a large crop?

Agree with all comments above. Not such a large crop so maybe camera or bird movement.

Both bird, colors and pose are lovely. Bird's head isn't looking sharp to my eyes and I am seeing some evidence of post-processing around the bird's beak. You could easily have photographed this wide open at 5.6 with your particular lens. It would have helped give you more speed to keep the bird in focus and also reduced the impact of the busy background.

Thank you Marina. I did no processing around the birds beak, just the application of Neat Image to the entire image as stated in the OP. F5.6 might work well but I have often come up with head in focus, tail a blur with that setting so I like to close down the lens a bit.
