    Default Aerial Confrontation

A cloudless mid-day in Florida is not the best time to be shooting birds, but I took a lunch break to walk through the rookery at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm back in February with a Nikon D300, 70-200 VRI + Nikon 1.4 tc and an SB800 flash. Not one minute into the walk these two Spoonbills got into a 3 second aerial squabble in the open sky before going their separate ways. Harsh conditions but it was a rare moment. Shot at 165mm, f/5.6, 1/1600, iso 400. Next time I'll try to get them to do it in the 7:30 am light.

Super moment captured. I'd like to see the whole thing a littlt less saturated.

    Robert:

Wonderful action! Agree about the saturation. I would tone that down a bit, consider adding 10% canvas around all sides, and try to open the shadows a bit more.

Very nice job capturing this at the peak of the action!

    Cheers

Pretty cool action here, I don't recall seeing this type of photo with spoonbills. I agree with the suggestions offered, but neat sighting and photograph!

Hi Robert, very well timed to have captured this action. Good wings positions from both, and agree, desaturating the overall image on the sky and spoonies should work.

Man, am I always hoping for an opportunity like that. You did well getting both birds in focus, and no wing clipping. evcellent shot. I hope you give us a repost with less saturation.

    Excellent...and consistent...suggestions. Here's another version of a moment that I doubt I'll see again.
