Not sure this is the right place to post this, please move it if it soesn't belong here. Took this in my backyard yesterday and did not notice until I was PP in PS that this bird seems only to have one leg. I took eight or nine shot of it on the same branch but with different angles and non of them show a leg except the stub shown in the image. He seemed quite normal and was looking for worms in our yard most of the afternoon and nothing was seemingly different about him. Do you think he might have had it pulled up into his belly. I can't think that he did or at some point the camera would have seen it as he moved from one possition or another. Opinions welcome and sought after.

    Wheeler:

It could be moved to bird ID, but you will get more views here, and a better chance of input.

I have been fooled so many times by a leg being tucked up, only to have it pop down at some point, but the 'stub' certainly looks suspicious, and since you observed him for a while and never saw both legs, it certainly is possible.

Perhaps one of our ornithologists will chime in.

    Cheers

I have seen one legged birds more than once. Banding can cause the loss of leg being banded.

Wheeler, this is pretty common bird behavior, I have recently noticed at Ft Desoto that many of the shore birds will hop on leg for a short distance rather than put the other leg down. It certainly does not preclude the possibility that your image is not of a one leg bird.

Thanks for all of your thoughts. I am sort of keeping track of this bird and will see if I can get more information on it. Thanks again.
