Haven't had much success with these guys the last two years but decided to edit this one while purging some files. Not having any visible scars on the face or horns, I think he prefers to just enjoy a few blades of grass while watching the other rams fight for the ladies. Chose not to try to even out the BG shading as I liked the hints of snow and shadows from the rocks. 7D, 1-400L, f6.3, 1/500s, ISO 1600, a partly cloudy, mid-November, late afternoon (4:40 PM) shot, HH, small crop from both sides.

Hi Steve - another very nice image. It was worth revisiting. Square-ish crop works for me here and I like the subtle tones. Grass adds to the image. There is one brighter oof loop just above and in front of the nose. I would blend it in a little more. Overall, very well done.

    Rachel

    Yep, another lovely portrait Steve.

Steve I'm not sure to what degree as I'm away and on the laptop, but if you just applied a Luminosity adjustment overall, then a preset Linear Curves adjustment to the horn, flattened the image and just added another round of USM to the horn and eye I feel it brings out the detail you originally captured and adds some nice depth to the overall image. Just a thought.

    Rachel, Steve, and Troy,
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
    Rachel,
Didn't even notice that and now I wonder how I missed it.
    Steve,
A subtle change but it does bring out some detail. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Steve, with images like this it's all about subtlety and how to tease out those last, but yet ALL important bits of information from what you have recorded in your camera, as it just takes the image up a gear and makes an image great.

Top notch portrait, Steve. Soft light, color pallette, conemplative looking pose with the bit of dry grass in the mouth, coat texture. Very nicely done.
