    Default Asking for Permission

I am going to be away for a few days, so I thought I'd leave you with another image in the lion kill sequence I posted some time ago.

This was right after the male had chased the females off the still kicking eland, and was holding it down. One of the females gingerly approached again and asked for permission to join the feast (which she had caught!). He entertained the request for a few seconds, but the answer was still a resounding "NO!".

I love how this could be such a tender moment amid such a gruesome but essential part of African life. I will never forget this morning.

I processed this in line with the cloud of white dust that was still lingering from the chase, coupled with slightly overcast early morning light.

Morkel, Love the expression of the male lion towards the female who got the kill -- honey, you got to be kiddng! But the raised tail of th female indicated that she was not so fearful of him either and she will get her fill eventually. Is it right? Tack sharp image. The light was a bit flat, but that was something you had no control over.

Hi Morkel - another great image in the series with excellent interaction between the lions. Comp, sharpness and detail all work. I'm seeing a little noise in the upper bg so would consider a round of NR.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Morkel, there is so much to take in from the image. The posture greeting, the puncture wounds, the raised front paw etc, etc, just all these elements help build the image and the crop works beautifully.

I still think like the previous images, it can take a blend of around 65% mid tone, and looking at the Levels tweaking them, seems to just 'crispins' it up, but personal taste as we know.

    A cracking series, thanks.

This is such a great shot. Only thing I'd do is either darken of get rid of the bright weed on the LHS.

A really evocative image, the timing is excellent, this picture really does say a thousand words. The puncture wounds in the neck of the ealand are clearly visible, clearly illustrating how the large antelope succumbed.
I wondered for a moment if the colours could benefit from a little warm up but you mentioned a white cloud so I cannot think of anything to suggest - just praise!

    Hey Morkel,
Lots of great stuff happening in this one. Position of the prey (and the visible wounds on the throat), the lioness's tail over the back and into the action, and of course the look of the male. Soft light and colors top it all off. Excellent work.

Morkel, again, this is a great series and is such a treat to see the behavior and pride dynamics of the Lions.
Enjoyed it very much, especially the fram/crop on this one!
