Another image from one of my trips into the Shenandoah mountains. This one from late afternoon as this guy settles down in the meadow edge to overlook his herom of does around him. Trying to imrpove my processing technique to reduce some oversharpening/halos that have been mentioned. All comments and critique welcome!

Hi Michael, again good detail & light in this one and the antlers stand out nicely with their sheen. Personally if this is FF then pulling back and having more room to the right would have been good, or if this is a crop then you can adjust accordingly. Good control of the darks and shadow areas around the nose & eye. Depending on your POV I might be tempted to do some 'gardening' and lose the brighter grass coming in from the RHS and perhaps a few to the right of the left ear as viewed? Sharpening looks good too.

    Just watch that shutter speed.

    Hi Michael,

very nice image. I agree with Steve with a bit more space on the LHS. Steve covert already all. The little grass coming out just behind the nose. I might would let it this one disappear too
    Great details and light

    Have a great day

Hi Michael - Steve has once again beat me to it. Very nice light and tones. I too would prefer a bit more room to the rhs. Sharpening looks good to me.

This is a question for Steve - given that Michael was using a tripod I was surprised a little at your comment about keeping the ss up. Isn't the ss adequate with a tripod?

    Rachel

I still feel a slightly higher SS would be good, the camera needs to be locked down even on a tripod, but again just my take. I probably wasn't too far off with these techs for the Snowys and the ISO was over 1000, but the wind buffeted the whole gear, something I think Michael did not have to worry about here.

I like the composition, personally more space on the right does not trouble me. The stray grasses, yes I must admit I think I would clone and or patch. the shadow on the eye and upper part of the face could be lightened just a little. I did wonder for a moment or so if the fur was over sharpened but I don't think so I suspect it is the texture and the angle of the light.

Thanks to all for the wonderful comments and suggestions! I'll have to see what improvements i can make. Glad to hear this one doesn't appear to be over sharpened.

Another nice looking whitetail Michael. I like the composition and the degree of blur of the BG trees, just the right amount of detail to show the tangled bush. I'd also remove the blade coming out of the top of the nose but mostly because of the gap between the shorter, bright one on the bottom that looks like its been broken but continues out the top of the nose.
